Breast cancer surgery has been done from various types.there are a lot of changes in the surgical management of breast cancer. Earlier MRM (Modified Radical Mastectomy) i.e removal of the whole breast was carried out but nowadays breast can be saved and moulded accordingly to give a proper shape.
In Breast conservation surgery along with cancerous lump, some portion of normal breast tissue is removed to get cancer free breast tissue margin. For the same frozen section, the analysis should be done to confirm the cancer-free margin. As we save a major amount of breast tissue in this surgery that’s why it is called as breast conservation surgery while in breast oncoplastic surgery same method is applied along with moulding of breast tissue with minimal and hidden scars to give better cosmetic results. Conserving or saving the breast will give better psychological effect as the patient’s breast is saved in this type of surgery. Overall survival remains to save in all above surgeries ( MRM, BCS, Breast Oncoplasty).
Breast Conservation Surgery or Breast Oncoplasty should be done by a Specialist / Trained Breast Oncosurgeon (Cancer Surgeon) or Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon.
